- CAN'T EDIT PAGE
Why can't I edit my page?
I can't seem to highlight text to edit it.
I can't edit a picture when I click on it - the "anchor points" don't show up.
or
I get a generic error message in the body of the page.
I can't seem to highlight text to edit it
a) Buildor/Lite is designed to edit pages built using HTML/CSS (Wiki Link). The majority of websites are built this way but some utilize Adobe Flash (Wiki Link) either for the entire site or for some graphics or text.
To find out if the text you are trying to edit is displayed using Flash you can Right Click [PC] or CTRL-Click [Mac] on the text. If you see a message like this:
Then you won't be able to edit that text with Buildor/Lite - go back to your Web Designer and ask them to set the text in html - tell him we sent you!
b) Text can also be displayed as a graphic - this is often used for headlines when the designer wants to use fonts outside of the limited web safe font sets of Times, Georgia, Verdana etc.
This is a more legitimate use of non-HTML text (we use it sometimes...). You can probably replace these headlines with HTML text. Simply delete the image, type the new headline and then format it as you would normally to make it the right font size.
c) Finally, designers sometimes use Flash for headlines using a specific function called sIFR.
If that's the case, the headline probably won't display in Buildor/Lite. If when you Right Click [PC] or CTRL-Click [Mac] on the headline (when the page is displayed normally, not when its loaded into Buildor/Lite) and you get a similar message to the graphic above then its probably an sIFR headline and you will not be able to edit it in that state.
I can't edit a picture when I click on it - the 'anchor points' don't show up.
a) If when you click on an image to edit it, you don't see anchor points around the image like this:
Broswer: Internet Explorer 7 Win/Vista
Broswer: FireFox 3 Mac
then the image is either displayed using Adobe Flash or it's set as a background image.
To tell whether the image is displayed using Flash follow the same instruction as above for text. If it is displayed as Flash you will not be able to edit the image using Buildor/Lite.
To establish whether the image is set as a background, view your page as normal (ie not when it is loaded into Buildor/Lite) and Right Click [PC] or CTRL-Click [Mac] if you see the following menus then the image is set as a background:
To edit a background image you will need to hit 'View HTML' from the top menu and edit it manually.
It's likely in this case that the website you are trying to edit has a large amount of complex server side code or a fully integrated content management system. Buildor/Lite is not designed to function with websites such as these. For more info see our Tech Spec guide.
If each time you try to return to Buildor/Lite you receive the same warning and you get bounced out your best bet is to delete your cookies and try again. We are working on a better solution to this problem and will update the site once we have done so.
