Control Panel: Edit Text / Links

You can link text to other pages on your website, other people's websites or to specified email addresses.

You can also use this control panel to remove existing links and remove the underline effect of a text link.

If you want to make a link a specific colour, highlight the text and change it using the Color tab.

Linking to another page

To link text to another page of your website or another website entirely, first highlight the words you'd like to link and click on the "Links" tab at the top of the control panel.

You then enter the URL of the page you would like to link to into the text box.

The URL can take the form of a full link:

http://www.another-site.com/pages/page3.html

ensure you include the http:// when linking to another site or using the whole URL when linking to a page on your site.

If the link is to a page on your site and in the same directory:

page3.html

or if the link is to a page on your site and in a different directory:

/another_directory/page4.html

If you are struggling to make links work within you own site you can enter the URL as a full link as above.

Define which window to open link in

Using the Open Link In dropdown, you can choose to have the link open in the same tab/window or a new tab/window (FireFox uses Tabs, Internet Explorer currently uses Windows).

As we define a new link target as _new you can only define one new window per page/site. If you are a subscriber (and currently whilst in Beta) you can edit the HTML direct and create different targets. To understand target read W3C Schools description.

Linking to an email

You can link to an email address by highlighting the words you'd like to link and clicking on the "Links" tab at the top of the control panel.

You then enter the email address into the text box, for example:

Linking to email

Spam Warning:

Having your email address on a webpage in this way can lead to unwanted Spam email. One suggestion to reduce spam is not to create a link to the address but to format your email as:

name [at] your-url [dot] com

Visitors to your site then copy and paste your email and replace the [at] with the '@' sign and the [dot] with a period/full stop.

Removing underlined links

Depending on the settings of your browser (either default or user defined) text links that you create might be underlined whilst you are editing or when you Preview your changes.

To remove these underlines highlight the link again and click the Remove Underline button.
