Editing Images / Properties

New images that you want to add to a page will automatically reveal their properties for
editing once they have been placed.
If you're having problems selecting images
to edit read our guide "Why can't I edit my
page?"
Image address:
When you click on a image the Control Panel displays the address or URL of the image. This allows you to easily change the image by changing the address.
Clearly, to use this
method the image already has to be online, having been uploaded to your server or hosted
by one of the many image hosting services (such as Flickr, Photobucket etc). Please
respect people's copyright and only use images you own, have licensed or are Creative Commons exempt.
For more information about changing images, adding or uploading new ones go to New Images - the basics.
Alt: and Title:
The "Alt" tag of an image is a required value and is used to increase the usability levels of a page by displaying alternative text for an image. If a visitor is viewing your page without images or is using a screen reader then this functionality is essential. Do your best to get into the habit of including "Alt" tags for all images.
The "Title" tag is optional but valuable for Search Engine Optimization and to tell visitors more information about an image. You'll notice that on most major web browsers, when you 'hover' over an image (or indeed any element with a Title tag) more info will be displayed - hover over the image below for an example:

Height: and Width:
The height and width of an image can be somewhat complex.
All bitmap images (gifs, jpegs, pngs) have a defined height and width (which you can view by right clicking and selecting "View Image" - FireFox or "Properties" - IE).
It is possible to 'force' the height and width so that the browser overrides these values but it is not usually recommended as you either end up with an image that has:
Incorrect proportions:

Is stretched and blurry:

Or is smaller than it could be using up unnecessary bandwidth:

If you are placing a new image onto a page and you want it to be a specific size we'd recommend resizing the image first using one of the online services such as Picnik.com or software such as Photoshop.
Padding:
The Padding value defines the amount of space top, right, bottom and left of an image. With Buildor/Lite you can choose to Insert an image inline with a paragraph of copy and choose whether it sits to the left or the right. If there was no padding on the image it would butt up against the copy which tends to look ugly.
We set a default value of 10px (pixels) top, right, bottom and left of images but you can define your own padding value in the following way:
This image is set as Float Right with 0px padding - it looks kind of ugly...
His
three boats stove around him, and oars and men both whirling in the eddies; one
captain, seizing the line-knife from his broken prow, had dashed at the whale, as an
Arkansas duellist at his foe, blindly seeking with a six inch blade to reach the
fathom-deep life of the whale. That captain was Ahab. And then it was, that suddenly
sweeping his sickle-shaped lower jaw beneath him, Moby Dick had reaped away Ahab's leg, as
a mower a blade of grass in the field. The same image but with 20px of padding - that's more like it...
